There is something about walking along the shoreline where the boundary of earth to sea is constantly shifting. My unique footprint meet the foundational elements of earth and water that make up our bodies. So much connecting, disconnecting and reconnecting happens here. For a moment I am part of the sea, and for a moment I am part of the land. Sometimes both. As soon as I step forward, the me who stepped before dissolves, and the me who will step is to be discovered.
All of this speaks to me of the reality of impermanence that is somehow permanent, of how change is the constant. When I partake in the flow instead of resist it, I find acceptance, wonder and a place for my next step.
It was fun to turn my experience of shoreline walks into a floral image. I loved using bleeding hearts and zinnia petals for toes, spinning periwinkles for heels, curved dahlia petals for the insole, and wildflowers for bare feet (as being bare connects me with my wildness). And then the hydrangeas… Aren’t they amazing? All the different shades they turn according to the acidity of the soil, age of blossom & sun exposure. I enjoyed blending them according to color. And their spinning shape also feels like water to me. The wet part of the sand – where you are not sure if you are walking on water or land – is made of hasta petals.
May this piece meet you wherever you find yourself on the journey of your life!
